Post-Work Tour of the 9th Ward

We saw a couple Steamship Houses right up against the Mississippi River Levee (which did not break during Katrina)

This is a "Katrina Cross" on the garage of the house (above). These crosses were markings left by rescue teams after the inside of the house was searched to report findings.

Today's work from Forstall St.

Everyone got to get out their shovels, rakes and hoes to clear dirt for a garden area.

Team Fitz/Mischke with Brenda

We had the great opportunity to meet Brenda, the homeowner of the house we are working on. The girls were able to hear her story about Katrina and the effects of the aftermath on her property and life. She felt very blessed having us here to work.

Painting Day for Team Fitz/Mischke

Indoor and outdoor painting and some carpentry as well--we're doing this!!

Mischke's group clearing blight

Our group was clearing out an overgrown lot full of weeds, vines, trash, etc. We cleared the front yard and a side strip as well. Lots of hard work and the girls were up to the challenge.
